“...Like an idea whose time has come,

not even the marching of mighty armies can halt us!”

            SYNOPSIS

King Alive is a seventy-five minute theatrical experience celebrating the passion and spirit of the civil rights movement. It’s an uplifting evening of music, song and powerful reflections inspired by those who marched and sacrificed along side Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The motif of KING ALIVE is the street protest- the energy of mass marches, music and grand idealism of the 1950’s and 60’s It opens in the atmosphere of 1955 Montgomery, Alabama, with the sound of powerful voices lifted in song and determination, then weaves into that musical tapestry the words of those who worked and struggled at the forefront, and along the edges, of the Civil Rights Movement.

The music is both popular and protest, gospel and Motown. The words are remembrances of everyday people swept up in the surging rush of a relentless movement for freedom, as well as the soaring eloquence of that movement’s symbolic leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The essence and spirit of Dr. King comes to life in this rousing theatre piece, but ultimately it’s the words of the people that will touch your heart! Words from real letters and stories that share with us the poignant and powerful experiences that changed lives and transformed our nation.

Featuring a chorus of gifted Broadway performers who bring both music and words vibrantly to life, and starring Craig Alan Edwards as Dr. King, this concert-play will stir your soul and send you away exhilarated, uplifted and energized to continue pursuing the Dream!
